Elk in Sequim

Cervus elaphus roosevelti may sound rare to some, but on the Olympic Peninsula, Roosevelt Elk are quite common. In fact, the Olympic National Park is home to about 5,000 Roosevelt Elk, the largest population of the species anywhere. The elk population is prevalent enough in the city of Sequim to be a part of unique monitoring program sponsored by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife that electronically alerts motorists to elk crossing near the highway.
